LEED Staircase UIUC

One of Heritage’s recent restoration sites received an award. The Natural History Building of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, one of the world’s premiere green rating programs. Gold status attests that the renovation was conducted in a manner that placed a focus on environmental conservation. To prevent pollution renewable materials were utilized, in addition to the 76% of the construction waste that was recycled.

About Heritage's work:

Heritage was responsible for the restoration of the interior woodwork of the Natural History Building. We stripped the original finish off the wood using chemical solvents, then refinished the components to look fresh and vibrant. Dozens of doors, jambs, window frames, wall trim, and columns were restored using these methods. Using recycled parts, our staff painstakingly rebuilt the four floor staircase on the north end of the building. We are happy to state that this staircase featured prominently in the article below announcing the certification:
