Summary
Heritage Restoration recently repaired and repainted this statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Its faded, creamy colors were replaced with deeper reds and improved detailing.
In Depth
The statue was suffereing from fading colors due to age. Additionally, the outstretched hands were damaged and covered with brown colors contrary to the rest of the skin tones. The client wanted the cream robes changed to a more traditional red. Meanstwhile, the hands required patching to remove minor chips and breaks. It was decided that the statue's new colors would be fresh, but not so vibrant as to distract from the more sober colors of the church interior. Over the couple days, the statue was painted with rich reds and gold highlighting. Christ's skin and wounds were given more realistic coloring and detail. Once the drying process was complete, the Sacred Heart was returned to its church. There the statue was reinstalled. Art projects like this are a joy because, like stained glass, statuary media is pictural and adds both life and history to a space.
